Livermore Residents Want BART Station

Livermore residents are circulating a petition requesting a BART Station in Livermore, something promised over 40 years ago. Livermore residents have paid property and sales taxes to support BART yet the city has no station, forcing residents to find alternate commute routes. BART has no current plans to build a Livermore extension, saying that there is neither political nor financial support for the extension and that there would not be enough ridership to support it.

Interestingly, the Livermore petition may impact the San Jose extension as it may draw support and shift priorities away from San Jose.

Linda Jeffery Sailors, a Livermore resident and the former mayor of Dublin, has already gathered over 500 signatures for her petition and expects to gather another 2,000 before bringing it to a BART planning meeting on January 12th. I'll report more on this story as it develops in the coming months.
